The pond was dug three feet deep in the center (water fountain), two feet deep under the lily pads, and with a one foot deep shelf for marginal plants all the way around. The total volume is approximately 300 US gallons. A fence was constructed to prevent Valerie's young children (and those of neighbors) from falling in. Even a shallow pond can be a hazzard to a toddler, so please - safety first. And check out your local bylaws - in the Ottawa area, at least, 5 foot high fences are required when the pond is in excess of 18 inches deep.
